We finally got our company site up and running... Just gave it a bit of a switch around, but am glad it's up.
Hambrook Web Design is the company we launched after encountering redundancy. We believe we can offer something more to the businesses around town than what is currently on offer.
After having to write at least four custom plugins just for this site (then re-writing them to make them more versatile and extensible)... the biggest challenge was coming up with content.
Still working on it, but for the most part, it's done.
Comments and critique welcome.
p.s. We estimate we considered over 400 company names, all ruled out for various reasons, so we fell back onto this (my surname)... but it's growing on me.
The homepage rotation is jQuery carousel running off a Portfolio plugin (based on Articles) which needs cleaning up a bit, heading fonts are replaced with Cufon.... list of plugins
The rotation on the homepage came with the static html template I purchased... and I had to tweak it to work as expected (clicking any image would just rotate them, I wanted the front image to follow a link when clicked).
Lots of little tweaks on this, like renaming the homepage link in the footer to the site title instead of 'Home' or similar.
Instead of just dropping in the Bootstrap responsive menu code I custom wrote one that left the current menu item as the text (or "Menu" if the current page wasn't on the menu).
Not sure on the "hiding all lis except for current" method instead of simple throwing the current page's menu name into the menu button text.
Looking forward to some from-the-ground-up responsive builds.
Tinynav though, I love
What does TinyNav do if the page you're on isn't in the menu? At a guess (I haven't tried it) I assume it'd simply show the first menu item. This isn't overly bad if "Home" is your first item, but could be confusing if your homepage isn't in your menu.
For other oddballs like Sitemap and Search, it would then default to Home, which is probably OK.
It has the option to add a non-linking header like 'Navigation' built-in if you want it behave more like the BS one.
The 3 bar thing is getting traction I agree but I reckon it's still currently with a very particular demographic.
